Lost your AT&T SIM abroad? Restore your line in 30 minutes.
Physical SIM stolen, lost, or destroyed while traveling? You don't need to fly home or wait for a mailed replacement. A blank AT&T eSIM ($12) plus a 15-minute AT&T support call gets your number working again on the same phone.

Why this works
Your AT&T phone number isn't tied to a physical SIM — it's tied to an ICCID (the SIM's identifier) in AT&T's network. When you lose the physical SIM, the number is still in your account. Any new SIM you can prove ownership of can be assigned that number. A blank eSIM is the fastest path because it arrives by email, not mail.
The whole flow works from anywhere you have Wi-Fi: hotel, café, friend's apartment. You don't need to be in the US, and you don't need a physical SIM-card retrieval. The only requirement is that your phone supports eSIM (iPhone XS and newer, most Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models 2018+).
Step by step
- Buy the blank eSIM. Go to /buy-att-esim.html and pay $12. We email the activation QR within 10 minutes.
- Scan the QR. Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Scan QR. The eSIM installs with a temporary placeholder line.
- Call AT&T support. Dial +1 800-331-0500 (free from Skype, Google Voice, or any VoIP). Tell them: "I lost my SIM and need to transfer my number to a new eSIM ICCID."
- Read them the new ICCID. It's visible in Settings → Cellular → your placeholder line → ICCID. Read the 19-20 digit number.
- Wait 5-15 minutes. AT&T provisions the swap. Your number activates on the new eSIM. The placeholder is replaced with your real account.
Total elapsed: 30-45 minutes including the wait. Your existing AT&T plan — calls, texts, data — resumes immediately. No new contract, no plan change, no extra monthly cost.
What to know before you call AT&T
| You'll need | Why |
|---|---|
| Account PIN or last 4 of SSN | Identity verification on the call |
| The new eSIM ICCID | To assign your number to it |
| Your AT&T phone number | To identify the account |
| A Wi-Fi connection | VoIP call to AT&T support |
One gotcha: if your AT&T account has a SIM PIN or eSIM-lock protection enabled, the rep may require additional verification (email confirmation, security question). Have your AT&T login ready.

FAQ
Can I do this without visiting an AT&T store?
Yes — the whole process is remote. Buy the eSIM online, install via QR, call AT&T to transfer the number.
Will I lose my phone number?
No. AT&T moves your existing number to the new ICCID. Same number, same plan, same billing.
What if my phone doesn't support eSIM?
You'll need a physical SIM replacement from AT&T's international mailing program, or visit a US store on your return. eSIM is iPhone XS+ and most 2018+ Android.
Is this the same as a regular blank AT&T eSIM purchase?
Yes — the same $12 blank eSIM that works for new lines also works for number transfers. See our existing-plan guide for details.
