TOKEN2049 Singapore: eSIM Options for Attendees
TOKEN2049 Singapore runs [VERIFY: dates]. If you're flying in from the US, you need a local data plan. Roaming on a US carrier in Singapore is expensive and often slow. An eSIM is the practical fix: you install it before you leave, it turns on when you land, and your US SIM stays in the phone handling calls and texts as normal.
Here's what we actually sell for Singapore, and how to think about which one to get.
Singapore-Only Plans
If you're staying in Singapore the whole time and not side-tripping, the Singapore-specific plan is the cheapest option.
- Singapore 2 GB — $3.49. This is the base plan. For a two-day conference — Maps, Telegram, checking prices, posting from the floor — 2 GB is enough for most people.
- TopUp Singapore 2 GB — $3.49 and TopUp Singapore 1 GB — $3.49. If you burn through your data, you can top up without buying a new eSIM. Same price per 2 GB, or $3.49 for 1 GB if you just need a little more.
If you're a light user — mostly messaging, a bit of Maps — start with the 2 GB plan and top up if needed. If you stream video, do video calls, or have a habit of leaving apps running, buy two 2 GB plans up front. The math is the same either way; you're just deciding when to deal with the top-up.
If You're Crossing Into Other Countries
Some TOKEN2049 attendees extend the trip into Malaysia, Thailand, or elsewhere in the region. The Singapore-only plan won't work there.
- Asia 7 Countries 1 GB — $3.99. Covers a regional footprint [VERIFY: confirm which 7 countries are included]. Only 1 GB, so you'd likely need a top-up for anything longer than a quick border crossing.
- TopUp Asia 7 Countries 1 GB — $3.99. Same network, same price, available as a top-up when that 1 GB runs out.
- Asia 1 GB — $4.99. Broader country coverage [VERIFY: confirm exact country list vs. the 7-country plan]. More expensive per GB than the Singapore-only plan, so only worth it if you actually need the extra coverage.
- TopUp Asia 1 GB — $4.99. Top-up version of the above.
One thing worth knowing: if your plan is Singapore-only and you hop over to Johor Bahru for dinner, your data will stop working the moment you cross. Plan for that if you're doing it.
What Doesn't Apply Here
The Vietnam Plus 3 GB — $5.49 plan is in our catalog and shows up in Singapore-region searches sometimes. It's a Vietnam plan. Don't buy it for TOKEN2049 unless you're actually going to Vietnam on this trip.
About US Phone Numbers
We also sell real US phone numbers as a separate product. This isn't a data plan: it's a real US mobile number for calls and texts, so people and US services can still reach you while you travel, without keeping a US carrier plan active. It's a separate purchase from the data eSIM.
How Installation Works
After you pay, you get an email with a QR code, usually within a few minutes. On a recent iPhone you can install it with one tap from the email. On Android and older iPhones, you scan the QR code in your carrier settings. The whole activation process takes about a minute once you scan it.
Install the eSIM before you leave home or while you're still on Wi-Fi at the airport. Don't wait until you've landed and need data to download the setup instructions.
Your US SIM stays in the phone. You don't pull anything out. The eSIM is a second line running alongside your existing number.
What Won't Work
- Your phone must be eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. Most phones bought directly or on installment from a US carrier after 2020 support eSIM, but locked phones from some prepaid carriers won't accept a third-party eSIM. Check your settings before you buy.
- These are data-only plans. You won't get a Singapore phone number or be able to make standard calls on the eSIM line. Use WhatsApp, Signal, or similar over data for that.
- If you lose internet access entirely — say the eSIM fails to activate — you need Wi-Fi or another connection to reach support. Have the hotel Wi-Fi password written down somewhere offline.
Payment Options
We accept credit/debit card, PayPal, Alipay, WeChat Pay, and crypto. If you're paying from overseas before the trip, any of these work fine at checkout.
