Network and plan details

Quick facts

Israel is small, tech-forward, and easy to cross, so a connection mostly buys you the local apps and quick navigation between Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the coast. Several of the apps you will use, like Moovit and Waze, were built here, and they run on data. A travel eSIM has them working from arrival.

What you can use the data for

Transit. Moovit, the Israeli-built journey planner, reads buses, trains, and the Tel Aviv light rail with live times. It needs a connection to plan and pay.

Ride-hailing. Gett is the main taxi app in Israel, with the fare and driver in the app. It runs on data and is simpler than flagging a cab.

Maps. Google Maps and Waze, also Israeli in origin, cover the cities and the routes to the Dead Sea, Galilee, and Eilat. They need a connection throughout.

Bookings and translation. Old City tours in Jerusalem, Dead Sea spas, and restaurant tables are easiest over data, with translation for Hebrew and Arabic signage.

Where it works

Coverage roams on Israel's national networks, strong across this compact country:

Coverage is strong across the cities and main routes in a country you can drive across in a few hours. It thins out only in the Negev desert and remote stretches. Download offline maps before a desert or Dead Sea drive.

Common situations

Tel Aviv and the coast

Activate at Ben Gurion, open Gett or Moovit, and get into the city without a SIM stop. A small data plan covers a beach-and-city break easily.

Jerusalem and the holy sites

Keep maps and tour bookings live across the Old City's quarters, where the lanes are easy to lose your way in. The eSIM runs beside your home SIM, so your usual number still rings.

Dead Sea and Eilat

Use the data on the drive south, and download offline maps for the Negev stretches, where signal thins between towns.

How to install your eSIM before you fly

  1. Buy the plan. The eSIM arrives by email, usually within a minute. Install it at home on Wi-Fi with the one-tap link or the QR code in the email. 5 plans start counting at install or purchase, and the tables mark them. Install those close to your flight.
  2. Name the line Israel and keep it off until you land. Do not delete it after setup, because an eSIM installs only once.
  3. On arrival, turn the line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. Turn off data roaming on your home line.

Screen by screen steps for iPhone and Android are in our travel eSIM install guide.

Common questions

How much does an eSIM for Israel cost?

Plans start at $3.49 for 1 GB over 14 days, on a plan that covers 42 destinations. A plan with at least 10 GB for 30 days starts at $12.99. Prices checked November 3, 2026.

Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Israel?

Not right now. The largest plan for Israel has 100 GB of data.

Is there a plan for Israel only?

Yes. 4 plans cover Israel only, from $14.99. 43 more cover it together with other countries.

Can one eSIM cover Israel and nearby countries?

Yes. 24 plans cover both Israel and Jordan, from $3.99. 26 cover Israel and Egypt. 43 cover Israel and Turkey. The section above lists the regional plans.

When does the plan start counting days?

It depends on the plan. Of the 47 plans for Israel, 42 start when you first use data and 5 start when you install the eSIM. The plan page shows the rule before you pay.

Does the eSIM come with a phone number?

No. These plans are data only, and your home number stays on your regular SIM.

Which apps will I use most?

Moovit for public transit, Gett for taxis, and Google Maps or Waze for driving. All run on the eSIM data, and several were built in Israel.

Will it work in Jerusalem's Old City?

Yes. City coverage is strong, which helps in the Old City's narrow quarters where it is easy to lose your bearings.

Is coverage good across the country?

Israel is compact and well covered on the main routes. The Negev desert and remote areas thin out, so download offline maps for those.
