Get a US Telegram number — for Chinese business users

Telegram is the messaging backbone for crypto, cross-border commerce, and many Chinese-diaspora business communities. If your Telegram is tied to a +86 number, you're region-locked out of certain features and your foreign contacts see a Chinese prefix. A US +1 number from MeiSIM fixes both.

Important: Telegram is blocked in mainland China

Before anything else: Telegram has been blocked by the Great Firewall since 2015. If you are physically in mainland China, you cannot reach Telegram's servers without a VPN. This guide assumes you are either (a) outside mainland China — Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the US, Europe — or (b) reliably connected through a VPN that can reach Telegram. Without that, no US number will help.

Once your network can reach Telegram, the verification flow is the same as anywhere else. The number you register with determines your account's "home region" and affects a handful of features (sticker availability, payment integrations, voice-call routing).

Why a US number for Telegram business

Three common reasons Chinese Telegram users come to us for a US number:

  1. Foreign client trust. US clients prefer messaging a +1 contact — it removes friction in saving you and starting a conversation.
  2. Account separation. Keep your personal +86 Telegram and your business US Telegram as separate accounts, both running in the official multi-account app.
  3. Region-locked features. Some Telegram premium features, sticker packs, and payment integrations work better with a non-Chinese number tied to the account.

Step-by-step verification

  1. Make sure you can reach Telegram (VPN if inside China, otherwise just normal internet).
  2. Buy an SMS-receive US number from /plans.html. Pay with UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, USDT, or card.
  3. Open Telegram → "Add account" (or fresh install) → enter the US number.
  4. Tap "Send code." The SMS appears in your MeiSIM dashboard within 30 seconds.
  5. Enter the code. If Telegram offers a Telegram-Passport verification, skip it for now — that's an in-app account flow, not phone-related.
  6. Set username, profile, and you're in.

One-off vs. monthly

Telegram occasionally re-verifies (new device login, suspicious activity, account recovery). If you've released the SMS-receive number, recovery becomes hard. For a business-critical account, take the monthly plan.
